About Us

The Birth of Shibui

In the heart of Rajasthan, a region steeped in tradition and beauty, Tanya Haity, a visionary interior architect, mountaineer, and caver, embarked on a mission to revive India’s rich cultural heritage with modern sensibilities.

Inspiration from the East

Tanya’s sister, Nikoi, introduced her to the Japanese concept of “Shibui” – a term that encapsulates the subtle, unassuming beauty of a sunset on the Som River, as rephrased by her . This elegant phrase resonated deeply with Tanya’s design philosophy, and Shibui Interior Furniture Design was born.

A Philosophy of Restraint and Harmony

Shibui’s design ethos is rooted in three guiding principles:
Simultaneity: Blending tradition with modernity to create timeless pieces.
Restraint: Embracing simplicity and subtlety to evoke elegance.
Harmony: Balancing function and aesthetics to craft spaces that soothe the senses.

I have been following Shubui since day one, and I’m impressed by the quality of their work. Tanya and her team are incredibly talented designers with a real passion for creating beautiful furniture. I am a big fan of Shibui Furniture Collective. Their pieces are simple, elegant, and made with care. I love how they combine the subtle beauty of vernacular objects and folk crafts with modern design.
